SAP Social Sabbatical
The Social Sabbatical portfolio is one of the largest global pro bono volunteering programs in the world. This program, launched in 2012, has more than 200 SAP employees participate each year. It is designed to utilize and develop SAP talent, while helping high performing nonprofit organizations and social enterprises that focus on digitalinclusion, run at their best. Specifically, diverse teams of employees dedicate their  professional expertise in a unique, short-term assignment to achieve triple impact: solving concrete strategic challenges for client organizations, developing key leadership skills of the participants, and advancing SAP as an employer of choice. As of 2019, the portfolio of programs implemented by PYXERA Global, has placed 1,257 employees with 414 organizations in 49 countries, delivering an in-kind contribution of €18.8M through 334,000+ service hours. Altogether, this program has impacted 5.7 million lives.
Social Enterprise World Forum
SAP and Social Enterprise World Forum entered the second of a three-year partnership this year. SEWF is the world’s largest annual assembly of social enterprises, policy makers, social-impact investors, academics and corporations. In October 2019, more than 1,200 social enterprises, activists, politicians, and advocates from 70 countries gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the 12th annual Social Enterprise World Forum (SEWF). Among them, SAP hosted 48 entrepreneurs from across the world in support of connecting global innovators and growing the social entrepreneurship movement. SAP and SEWF will work closely together to provide expertise in technology, talent, and access to markets for existing and aspiring social enterprises meeting again in Halifax in September 2020.
We Are Family Foundation
Fostering youth entrepreneurship is another critical element to future innovation. SAP continued to build on its strategic partnership with the We Are Family Foundation’s Three Dot Dash global teen leader initiative, to support teen innovators addressing the world’s most pressing issues. In 2019, the efforts of 32 teens representing 6 continents focused on improving healthcare, decreasing food insecurity, and promoting access to education. Ten Global Teen Leader alumni from the African Continent joined SAP as guests and speakers for the Social Enterprise World Forum 2019.
SAP Innomarathon
Latin America’s Social Innomarathon nurtures social entrepreneurship across the region. The program was created in 2017 by SAP Labs Latin America to allow emerging companies or startups, to develop solutions that solve social problems in Latin America. Topics include education, public services, sustainability and social entrepreneurship. In 2019, SAP mentors engaged in 36 projects across six countries. The winner of 2019 Social Innomarathon was Nilus, an Argentinean startup that promotes healthy and sustainable food for low-income people using technology.
Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship
In 2017, SAP launched a three-year commitment with Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) to help grow their Startup Tech program in three regions of the United States: Bay Area, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Through this program, middle and high school students take part in a blended learning tech-entrepreneurship course that asks students to identify ways to improve their world and to build marketable digital solutions using MIT App Inventor. Participation has grown to more than 27+ classrooms with 1,200 students enrolled.
SHE CAN
SHE CAN is a three-year initiative jointly established bySAP in China with UNWomen – the United Nations entityfor gender empowerment. This program is designed to empower 10,000+ female entrepreneurs with digital competency, diversity and inclusion thought leadership.
GENYOUth
For the second year, we supported Social Entrepreneurship Network Germany (GENYOUth) with the publication of the German Social Entrepreneurship Monitor 2019 (DSEM). The publication aims to make social entrepreneurship data in Germany available and create awareness about their challenges and opportunities. This partnership supported the Adventure Capital platform, which helps young people develop leadership skills and become more workforce ready. Adventure Capital (AdCap), celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit, promotes innovation and empowers youth to become agents of change in their communities. Since 2013, 2,500 students have engaged on the AdCap Platform and more than $600,000 in grants have been awarded in support of over 1,500 student projects developed to inspire change in 750 schools.
MAKESENSE
In 2019, the SAP Corporate Social Responsibility France team and the MakeSense incubator have strengthened their partnership by co-building a coaching program for social entrepreneurs incubated by MakeSenseForEntrepreneurs. The SAP Mentoring program accelerates the development of technological and digital projects with high social or environmental impact. More than one hundred employees participated in this social entrepreneurship program alongside MakeSense, volunteering more than 1450 hours in support of 15 social startups. Since the initiative was launched, more than 200 SAP France employees volunteered to support 32 social start-ups throughout six month incubation period.
SEND E.V.
For the second year, we supported Social Entrepreneurship Network Germany (SEND e.V.) with the publication of the German Social Entrepreneurship Monitor 2019 (DESM).The publication aims to make social entrepreneurship data in Germany available and create awareness about their challenges and opportunities. The DSEM is therefore a vital tool for decision-makers from the public and private sector to better understand social enterprises and to encourage powerful support to better facilitate and measure their economic and social successes.
SAP UP
SAP UP social entrepreneurship contest was founded by SAP Central Independent States (CIS) in 2015. The key objective of the contest is to build an environment where social start-ups can seek expertise and financial support from business community. The contest is held by SAP to promote social entrepreneurship best practices in Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia. In 2018, we reached 41 social enterprises creating positive impact in the areas of environmental protection, equality, medicine and health to name a few.
DIGITAL SOCIAL INNOVATION LAB
The Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility at the University of Mannheim and Social Entrepreneurship BW teamed up with SAP in 2018 to create the Digital Social Innovation Lab (DSI Lab). This program is the first project-oriented teaching format in the EU that enables students to found their own social start-ups with a focus on digital innovation. Of the seven teams who started, two – Ruuf and Doubble – took the next step towards becoming a social business. In the fall of 2019 we started the second cohort with 26 students. So far, 19 SAP employees support the teams as mentors or conduct workshops.

Powering Opportunity
2019 Summary

Innovation is an opportunity and a responsibility—one that belongs to everyone. SAP Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is powering opportunity for all people through digital inclusion initiatives. We want to help everyone participate in—and benefit from—today’s digital world. Our programs address issues of building, accessing, and applying twenty-first century skills.
WE FOCUS ON THREE STRATEGIC PROGRAM PILLARS: building digital skills, accelerating best-run nonprofits and social enterprises, and connecting employees with purpose. The programs we run within each pillar embrace the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing primarily on three of the seventeen goals: quality education (SDG 4), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), and strengthening partnership for sustainable development (SDG 17).
With a focus on these strategic pillars, SAP donated €23 million in 2019 to education and workforce development initiatives, as well as social entrepreneurship projects. Few organizations are better positioned than SAP to help people become—and stay—relevant in a digital world. But that doesn’t mean SAP has all the answers. These digital inclusion programs were activated in more than 105 countries, accelerating SAP’s ability to reach and build a diverse, skilled workforce.
“We are not the experts when it comes to social change,” said Alexandra van der Ploeg, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, SAP SE, at the 2019 Social Enterprise World Forum. “That comes from our partners. Our job is to use SAP’s core competencies to build capacity for our partners, accelerating their incredible work, and maximizing social impact.”  There is power in partnership to create concrete plans and measurable change, and 2019 was an exceptional year for partnership.
SAP successfully activates its partnerships with the help of dedicated employees and their business expertise. In 2019, 52% of SAP’s corporate volunteer hours globally were skills-based in nature, giving employees the opportunity to support our strategic CSR programs. SAP is proud to say that its employee volunteer programs and social sector partnerships positively impacted more than 6 million lives in 2019. SAP’s commitment to digital inclusion is a prime example where doing what’s right and doing what’s right for business are in perfect harmony.

Digital Skills

Our digital skills programs generate inclusive opportunities for underserved people, communities, and nations regardless of age or where people live in the world. Each program is executed in partnership with the public, private and social sectors, and falls into one of two focus areas. First, we broadly inspire teachers, youth and young adults through access to technology and digital education. Programs in this area include Africa Code Week, ASEAN Data Science Explorers, Latin Code Week, Let’s Talk Science Living Space, Meet and Code and Young ICT Explorers to name a few. Second, we increase employability for underserved people through technical certifications and bootcamps.
In 2019, digital skills and coding programs trained 56,000 teachers, engaged 4.5 million underserved people and youth, and spanned 105 countries.

Accelerating Best-Run
Nonprofit Organizations &
Social Enterprises

Now more than ever, being a best-run organization means making a difference. This holds true as much for the private sector, as it does for the social sector. In this vein, SAP CSR has worked for more than a decade to build trust and add value to organizations including nonprofits and social enterprises in this sector.
Our partnerships and programs in this area engage a robust pipeline of social enterprise networking organizations, accelerators, incubators,as well as direct partnerships with social enterprises themselves. Each of these engagements reemphasizes our commitment to social innovation and multi-stakeholder partnerships to enable economic and societal development.

In 2019, SAP built capacity for over 1,200 innovative nonprofit organizations and social enterprises through in-kind contributions of €3.4 million impacting a minimum of 950,000 lives across the globe.

A Purpose Driven Company
Connecting Employees
with Purpose
93% of SAP employees acknowledge the importance of pursing purpose and sustainability. We do this through two distinct types of volunteering: 1) We connect employees to their purpose through traditional and skills-based volunteering, supporting employees’ interests to volunteer in an area that matters to them personally and 2) We activate our employees’ expertise and leadership through skills-based volunteering in support of our signature initiatives and partnerships (e.g. Code Unnati, SAP Social Sabbatical).

SAP’s largest and longest-running global volunteering initiative is SAP Global Month of Service. In 2019, employees volunteered in more than 600 projects during this campaign. However, we recognize that the needs which nonprofit organizations and social enterprises have for corporate volunteer support is not limited to one month a year. We encourage employee volunteers to get involved when the need arises, keeping pace with changing community needs across the globe.
By creating the space for self-motivated and purpose-minded employees to get involved and lead SAP’s volunteer efforts in their community, SAP is able to foster employee engagement andsocietal impact, and grow the business as well. In 2019, SAP employees around the world dedicated more than 270,000 hours of service to causes that are important to them personally.

Impact Driven Company
Collaborating
for Impact
Increasingly, SAP CSR is collaborating with like-minded customers and partners to drive collective impact through exemplary initiatives. At the 2018 IMPACT2030 global summit in September at United Nations Headquarters in New York, SAP was awarded the inaugural IMPACT2030 Innovation Award for  “Collaboration for Good”, recognizing organizations like SAP in directing the collective skills, experience and talent of corporate volunteers towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Additionally, in support of SAP’s mission to power opportunity through digital inclusion, we have partnered with PYXERA Global to launch a new multi-stakeholder initiative called Corporate Champions for Education. This initiative invites companies of all sizes, across industries, to come together in support of a collective purpose, to meet future workforce needs.
SAP India is also realizing sustainable impact through collaboration. In 2017, SAP India co-founded a program with customers ITC and Larsen & Toubro Public Charitable Trust called Code Unnati. Code Unnati is a first-of-its-kind multi-company initiative that delivers positive social impact across 13 Indian states. Through digital skills access and education as well as ten new community service centers in rural areas, Code Unnati reached 414,486 students and teachers in 2018.
